SUMMARY:Arist of the Month
DESCRIPTION:At 6:00 pm The Museum of Western Art will host its Artist of the Month program. The December event will feature the collection of Dee and Jim Salyer\, two long-time Museum volunteers and art collectors whose gift to the Museum consists primarily of works by award-winning artist Steve Forbis. According to the website westerngraphics.com\, "Steve Forbis is unquestionably the finest pencil artist working with emphasis on Native Americans. His lithographs are multi-layered and highly labor intensive\, resulting in an almost unbelievable level of realism. The works are color pencil 'lithographs' in that they are color and value crafted rather than linear drawings." His work has also been characterized as recordings of contemporary Native American life and the effort to preserve traditions of Native American culture\, particularly that of the people of the Southwest. Other master works in the Salyer Collection that will be on view include works by Ken Ottinger\, Harry Warren\, and Michael Atkinson. The Salyer Collection will be on view through December 31\, 2015.
