SUMMARY:MUSEM OF WESTERN ART TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL COWBOY DAY
DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Western Art will celebrate the 12th annual National Day of the Cowboy on Saturday\, July 23\, 2016\, in conjunction with the Museum's Family Free Day event. Youngsters\, parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend the event\, which is free for all Kerr County families. At 10:30 a.m.\, everyone will be given a special tour of the art in the galleries by Western artist Herman Walker\, and will have the opportunity to compare it to aspects of the Cowboy Coe of Conduct. After each buckaroo repeats the Cowboy Code\, he or she will be made an honorary Junior Trail Boss with fun things to take home. A craft activity can be created\, and refreshments will be served at the Pavilion. Stephanie Turnham\, Executive Director\, said\, "We have begun a new Family Free Day event designed to attract local residents\, and since National Day of the Cowboy is on Family Free Day\, we thought this would be a perfect activity for all Kerrville to enjoy." "The art in the museum illustrates in many ways the characteristics of the Code of Conduct for the American cowboy and cowgirl\," she added. "A visitor can walk through the galleries and view examples in canvas and in bronze that illustrate cowboy characteristics of bravery and courage\, love for the land and animals\, and tolerance and respect of others. The event will reinforce what children are taught in school and at church." For more information about this event or about the museum\, please call 896.2553\, or visit the museum's website at www.mowatx.com.
