Accounting Clerk

SUMMARY: Performs a wide range of accounting and administrative duties to support the accounting department.


Verifies information and maintains accounts receivable reports including but not limited to monthly sales, open invoices, and aging reports.
Receives checks and prepares deposit slips; verifies remittances against business accounts; deposits checks daily.
Ensures timely and accurate processing of accounts payable; receives, verifies, and posts accounts payable invoices into accounting system.
Interacts with vendors and department managers when processing a resolution of account discrepancies.
Receives and reviews purchase orders, check requests, and/or other related documentation for completeness and compliance with financial policies, procedures, and contractual requirements.
Researches problem invoices; interfaces with vendors, customer service team, and other appropriate staff to reconcile.
Receives credit card receipts and reconciles against corporate credit cards on a monthly basis.
Follows up on account statements and other discrepancies regarding payment of accounts; serves as liaison between departments and vendors in the resolution of administrative problems and inquiries.
Reviews, audits, and processes employee expense reimbursements; verifies accuracy of expenses and adherence to company policies.
Enters information into accounting data entry system.
Verifies and prepares checks for mailing.
Prepares and posts deposits; balances deposits on bank statements.
Prepares invoices, checks and other records and reviews for accuracy.
Assists with month-end close and runs monthly reports as required.
Maintains accounting department files and records.
Assists with special accounting projects as needed.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, etc. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to handle or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and adjust focus.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent. One year related work experience. Knowledgeable of general principles and practices of accounting. Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Must be detail oriented, organized and have good communication skills. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
