Description
In 2003, Former Kerrville Mayor Bill Blackburn established a door to door canvas with a task force asking residents what they liked about their community, what were their hopes and dreams for the community and what was the greatest need for the district? From this inquiry, the need for a place for seniors, children, continuing education and more was established. With a grant from the Cailoux Foundation, Mayor Blackburn’s committee purchased the Doyle School building and began the Doyle School Community Center. With help from Fred Gamble and others who grew up in the neighborhood, the Doyle School Community Center was established. Today, the Doyle Community Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit staffed primarily by individuals who live in the Doyle neighborhood or were raised in the Doyle area. The Center is supported by many volunteers and a deep involvement from Kerrville area businesses, individuals, and the City of Kerrville. The Doyle Board of Directors oversees the Center’s operations and works diligently to ensure access is available for needed programs and services for our community members.
Join us at 3:00 pm on September 29th for a ribbon cutting with the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce, followed by a reception from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at the Doyle Community Center to celebrate 20 years of support and history in the Doyle Community.
