Learn about migration and the diminishing number of Texas’ state insect, the Monarch butterfly. The program is led by butterfly enthusiast and educator Cathy Downs, who will also talk about the importance of native and non-systemically treated milkweed, the mainstay of a Monarch’s diet. Downs raises Monarch caterpillars for educational purposes and propagates their preferred food source, native milkweeds. She chairs the “Bring Back the Monarchs to Texas” program, a habitat conservation partnership between the Native Plant Society of Texas and Monarch Watch.
