About Us
Kerrville State Hospital is for people hospitalized on a forensic commitment, such as people who have been judged to be not guilty by reason of insanity. For these people, the goal is to treat their mental illnesses so they may safely return to the community.
Most people are admitted on transfer from the secure treatment facilities – North Texas State Hospital Vernon Campus and Rusk State Hospital Maximum Security Unit -- after a determination they aren’t manifestly dangerous and require a longer stay in the hospital.
Visitor Information
Visitors must stop at the front gate to receive instructions from security. Visitors are then directed to the Visitor's Center. All visitors are informed of the policies and procedures for visitation.
Visitors must abide by all appropriate hospital policies, including the ban on the use of tobacco and tobacco products.
