Hunt, at the forks of the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country, became a town in 1912. The Hunt community will celebrate 100 years of history on May 19, 2012. Hunt is known for its scenic vistas, summer camps and the clean and sparkling river.
The celebration on May 19th will begin at 9am with the opening ceremonies and a parade through historic downtown Hunt. Students from the Hunt School will perform a historical pageant and story tellers will entertain listeners with takes of life in historic Hunt. Visitors will be able to look at vintage and antique cars. Ten area artists will exhibit their paintings, pottery, jewelry and bronze works. Historical programs, exhibitions of arrowhead making, horseshoeing demonstrations, “Dutch Oven” cowboy cooking and other family activities will happen throughout the day. Six bands will be on-stage, playing music ranging from country, to Texas swing, to jazz, to old and modern rock and roll. Legendary Texas singer-songwriter Billy Joe Shaver will perform on stage about 4pm. A sanctioned fiddle contest with $3500 prize money will start at 1pm. Food and music will be available throughout the day at the nearby Hunt restaurants. In the evening, the celebration will continue at Crider’s Rodeo & Dance Hall with a real, live Texas Rodeo and Dance. The Parade starts at 9am sharp!
