Description
Creative writing instructor Mary Lee Gowland will conduct two one-day workshops in August at Riverside Nature Center. Long active in interests related to the writing world, both in California and in Kerr County, Gowland is a published poet and author with over 20 years of experience teaching all ages of students.
The first workshop, “The awesome natural world,” is for kids, ages 9-12. It will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 11.
She said, “Whether your child loves creepy crawlers or warm cuddlies, the morning workshop will give him or her the skills needed to express wonder and appreciation for the natural world.”
“Writing the natural world” is geared to adults who take pleasure, gazing out windows at birds and their feeders. It’s also for the aspiring writer who rides the wild rapids or hikes the great outdoors. Gowland added, “With examples from the words of classic and contemporary nature writers, I’ll give you the tools you need to express your experiences in words. You’ll be inspired by your own unique stories.”
This program runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25.
While both classes are geared to nature, the concept easily translates to any genre of writing. Students fascinated in pursuing more of the written word may be interested in taking Gowland’s course this fall through Club Ed.
