Kerr County Historical Commission – November Meeting
KERRVILLE— Lanza Teague will speak on the topic: Smithsonian Exhibit Coming to Kerrville in 2026 and How You Can Help! The meeting begins at 12 noon on Monday, November 17 in the Union Church Building
at 101 Travis Street in Kerrville. Meetings are open to the public and visitors are welcome.
Lanza is the Local Project Coordinator for the Smithsonian Exhibit scheduled to open on Saturday, May 16th in 2026. She is the Executive Director of the Kerr Arts & Cultural Center in downtown Kerrville, which will be the location of the Smithsonian Exhibit - Museum on Main Street. Lanza has nineteen years of experience working in the arts and non-profits. She developed a walking history tour of downtown Kerrville and is a local historian with a bi-weekly column in the Kerrville Daily Times. And she is also a member of the Kerr County Historical Commission.
Kerrville is one of six rural cities in Texas selected to receive a Smithsonian Museum on Main Street Exhibit with the theme: Spark! Places of Innovation. The touring exhibit highlights innovation in rural America from the perspective of the people who lived it - their words, images, and experiences. The goals for each community exhibit on what shaped innovation and innovators: explore the unique combination of circumstances, people, and places; feature the artistic, heritage, social, and technology stories; inspire conversations on history, the present, and the future; and motivate innovation and invention to solve problems and utilize resources.
The Kerr County Historical Commission was organized in October 1975 and is a part of Kerr County government operating with residents appointed by the Kerr County Commissioners Court. The work of the commission focuses on preservation of the historical heritage of the county; identifying historical buildings, sites or cemeteries; and recording and explaining information regarding the history of the county.
