Local Museums Partner in February Membership Campaign
By Nancy Foster
Thanks to a collaboration between two area museums, Hill Country art and history enthusiasts will now have opportunity to enrich their cultural lives through a special February membership campaign.
The Museum of Western Art in Kerrville and the Frontier Times Museum in Bandera
will run a special promotion throughout February to encourage patronage at each. Darrell Beauchamp, Executive Director of MoWA, provides details. “It’s quite simple. This is a straightforward opportunity for both of our non-profit museums. Purchase a one-year Wrangler category membership with us for $100 or a one-year Sustaining Membership at the Frontier Times Museum and receive a complimentary year of membership at the other museum. Membership perks include repeat admission passes, guest passes, museum store discounts, and, through Frontier Times Museum, a complimentary membership to NARM, (North American Reciprocal Museum Association), offering free or reduced admission to participating museums across the country.
Rebecca Norton, Executive Director of the Frontier Times Museum, said the promotion came about because of a shared exhibition. “We opened ‘Capturing the Old West in Bronze’ in May and invited Darrell Beauchamp to see it and meet members of the Mack family, whose parents, Shermalee and Lou, created the bronze works. Beauchamp was so intrigued that he offered to move it to MoWA as soon as we closed it. “Shermalee and Lou: the Mack Cowboys”, opened on January 25 to such robust enthusiasm that we both saw this as an opportunity to do some cross-marketing. Exhibits change often at both our museums, and this offer entices museum enthusiasts to visit often.” Shermalee and Lou, The Mack Cowboys will run at MoWA until March 15, 2025. Beauchamp says, “People from Bandera who had never been here before attended our opening reception on January 25. We want them to come back – and Rebecca hopes to entice the Kerrville crowd to visit her museum.”
This is not the first joint venture for the museums. Each year, both participate in the
Blue Star Families program to offer military and veterans complimentary admission from Memorial Day to Labor Day. They also are part of the Texas Hill Country Trail Passport program.
